Volunteering at Peace Temple
Peace Temple has always been more than a place — it is a living ever-evolving organism created through the care, presence, and generosity of those who gather here. Every retreat, workshop, and gathering is held together not only by the facilitators and teachers, but by the many helping hands who give their time and energy in service to the whole. Volunteering is one of the most meaningful ways to be part of this mandala, whether in the kitchen, tending the land, building, or helping with art, music, and logistics.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering at Peace Temple is a chance to step into the spirit of service. It’s about contributing your unique gifts — whether cooking, building, cleaning, helping support events, or contributing creatively with art and music — and in turn being nourished by the experience of community. Volunteers often share that their most treasured moments here come not only from the workshops or music, but from the laughter in the kitchen, the quiet conversations while maintaining spaces, or the joy of working side by side with new friends.
What to Expect
Our volunteer teams are essential to every event — and throughout the season. Kitchen volunteers help prepare and serve meals, ensuring the whole community is nourished. Land, building, and clean-up crews care for the grounds and facilities, supporting new projects as well as keeping the spaces clean and welcoming. Whatever role you step into, you’ll be met with guidance, gratitude, and the knowledge that your contribution makes a real difference.
A Spirit of Care
At Peace Temple, we strive to walk gently on the land and with one another. Our kitchen is fully vegetarian and vegan, with an emphasis on organic and locally sourced food. We ask all volunteers to bring the same spirit of mindfulness and care into their service. Volunteering is not just about tasks — it is about presence, connection, and co-creating a space where everyone can rest, transform, and celebrate together.
Practical Details
Exchange: Volunteers typically offer 4 hours of service per day in exchange for being part of the retreat, gathering or their time at Peace Temple. This may include meals, lodging (when available), and participation in the program outside of volunteer shifts.
Roles: Assignments are based on both the needs of the event and your skills or interests.
Meals: During retreats and events, all meals are provided and are always vegetarian or vegan, with an emphasis on organic, locally sourced ingredients. Outside of event days, meals are not provided — volunteers are welcome to cook for themselves in the community kitchen (and often end up cooking together anyway).
Lodging: Shared accommodations are sometimes available for volunteers, but we ask everyone to bring a tent as space is limited. Details vary by event.
