WELCOME TO THE PEACE TEMPLE GATHERING

Welcome to the Peace Temple Gathering for the international community that aims to be at peace with themselves, each other, and nature.

We have our roots in earth, spirituality, creativity, community, yoga, meditation, tribal culture, music, and art.

A gathering, like a cherished memory, becomes sweeter with time. Formed through shared moments, quiet presence, and the simple act of coming back together. Just as the land holds stories in its soil and the forest remembers each season, the gathering carries on its own living memory.

Peace Temple is a place of gentle remembrance, where we can slow down enough to feel what still matters through conversation, workshops, creativity, music, dancing, moments of reverence and time spent together with the elements in nature.

In remembering, we are not reaching for the past, but touching something timeless within us. We remember why we gather, and the connections that continue to nourish us.

Welcome to Sweet Remembrance, the 14th annual Peace Temple Gathering—a space to return, to reconnect, and to remember together.

WHAT IS PEACE TEMPLE?

Peace Temple is a forest retreat center in the Catskill Mountains, devoted to creating and holding peaceful and inspiring community events where:

Art, music, creativity, spiritual growth, respect for nature, and respect for each other are practiced.

These beautiful 68 acres of forest have been thoughtfully landscaped over the years, transforming into a retreat center that nurtures peace, creativity, and community.

The Peace Temple Gathering is a central event of the summer, with smaller retreats happening all throughout the season.

📍 Peace Temple is:
🚗 3-hour drive from New York City
🚗 4.5-hour drive from Boston

RULES AND AGREEMENTS

By joining the Peace Temple Gathering, you agree to respect the land, facilities, and each other by following these guidelines:

✅ Leave No Trace. Pick up any trash—even if it’s not yours. Keep your space clean, store all trash, recycling, and compost in designated bins, and take all personal belongings with you when you move.

🚫 No Alcohol. This is an alcohol-free event. Please do not bring or consume alcohol here.

👶 Parents, Supervise Your Children. Children must be watched at all times for their safety and the safety of others.

🐕 No Pets Allowed. We have three community dogs and cannot accommodate additional pets. Please consider rover.com for dog-sitting services.

🏊 Swim Only from the Dock. Entering from the shore makes the pond muddy—please use the dock for swimming.

🔥 No Personal Fires. Fires are only allowed at designated communal fire areas.

🦺 Store All Food Properly. Never take food to your tent—we have bears. Keep all food in the kitchen container or your car.

🥦 Respect the Vegetarian Space. For the duration of the gathering, only vegetarian food is allowed in communal areas. No meat cooking or grilling.

🚗 Mindful Parking. Do not block or park near driveways. Leave at least one car length before and after any entrance. Follow all parking directions from volunteers and organizers.

💖 And Most Importantly… Come with an open heart and a clear mind. Embrace yourself and others as they are. Bring positive intentions and smiles to share.

KIDS

We welcome kids at the gathering; however, we do not provide a drop-off space for them. Instead, we’ll offer a few workshops designed specifically for kids, mainly during the kid-friendly weekend of the gathering.

If you’re planning to attend with young children, the kid-friendly weekend is the best time to come. Parents are fully responsible for their children at all times, ensuring they are supervised and taking responsibility for any damages.

For older kids (teenagers), we ask that they only attend if they are fully aligned with the gathering’s energy and are willing to volunteer.

Please contact us directly to discuss whether bringing your children is a good fit and to arrange any volunteering opportunities.

FOOD & WATER

OUR KITCHEN: LOCAL, VEGAN, ORGANIC

While our community kitchen is open for everyone to cook during most of the gathering, it will be closed to the public on the main weekend (August 15–17). That weekend, we will be serving a special menu of fresh, delicious vegan meals for everyone.

Meals will be provided on:

  • Friday (August 15): 8 PM Dinner
  • Saturday (August 16): 12 PM Brunch & 6 PM Dinner
  • Sunday (August 17): 12 PM Brunch & 6 PM Dinner

Please note: We only cook for everyone from August 15–17. If you arrive before or stay after these dates, please bring your own food.

COMMUNITY KITCHEN USE

Outside of the main weekend, the kitchen is open for everyone to cook together. As a community, we will take turns leading cooking and cleanup efforts.

Peace Temple has a vegetarian kitchen—please only bring vegetarian food to the gathering.

FOOD STORAGE

❌ Do NOT store food in tents—we have bears and other animals in the area.

🛑 Outside the main weekend, limited food storage will be available in our kitchen container.

📌 During the main weekend, we ask most people not to bring food, except for snacks. However, we will provide limited storage in our kitchen container and fridge as an exception for families with kids.

DRINKING WATER

Drinking water will be provided throughout the gathering, so there’s no need to bring water.

ARRIVALS, GREETING, PARKING AND DEPARTURE

Peace Temple is located at:
2995 Hathaway Pond Rd, Hancock, NY 13783

If you are coming on the EXTRA DAYS only, and there is room for you to park down below, it would be possible to drive down the driveway and park the car near the pavilion. However, please ask before arriving if it would be possible.

Please take this long driveway down, very slowly (no more than 8mph), all the way until you will arrive at the large central wooden structure with the see-through roof.

If you are coming on the weekends, please do not take the driveway, and park on the road above the property on the left side of the road, as close to the trees as possible not to stick out into the road itself. You can then walk down the same driveway. Park as close as possible to other cars, and do not block any driveways. Leave at least one car length before and after any driveways when you park.

ARRIVAL ON THE MAIN WEEKEND

We have a crew of parking and greeting volunteers during the main weekend to best coordinate the arrival, parking and departure process.

We will start shuttling from the parking on the road, all the way down to the center of Peace Temple on Thursday August 15, so please be prepared to park the car up on a road, and walk down with your things, about a 10 minute walk.

IMPORTANT:

On the main weekend, please try your best to arrive early, before 6pm on Friday, August 15th, so you have time to set up and be here in time for dinner.

DEPARTURE ON THE MAIN WEEKEND

We will start to offer shuttle rides for departure after our main weekend closing circle in the afternoon on Sunday, August 17th, around 4pm.

RIDE SHARE

Please help minimize the number of cars and wasted gas by sharing rides with each other! Large vans or mini-busses will help everyone save on costs, as well as leave more room for parking.

Use the ride-share spreadsheet link below to add your information if you are able to offer a ride, or if you need a ride.
